Built of earthbag construction, the massive earth plastered walls provided security and thermal mass to counter the hot days of Botswana. Large sliding doors open the living area to the veldt beyond while an enclosed courtyard with a fountain provides relief from the sun. Rainwater is collected from the roof and stored in above and below ground cisterns for future use. A detached garage and shop space provide ample storage and allow the main living areas to be open and uncluttered. A natural palate of earth plaster, log beams and local wood allow the building to blur the lines of inside and outside.
